“To live is to suffer, to survive is to find some meaning in the suffering.” - Friedrich Nietzsche
The Salesman, the charismatic recruiter of The Squid Game.
Amanda Young, the apprentice serial killer of Jigsaw.
Survival is a must when you’re in a situation where your life is at stake. A quote by Les Brown stated that, "Life is a fight for territory, and once you stop fighting for what you want, what you don't want will automatically take over.” Like being killed by these two killers, or joining in their games where you will play with your life at stake. Today, we are gonna find out which of these two will come out victorious in this blog.
Before we start
Before we start, we are using the Canon material for both, so for example for the Salesman we will use stuff like the Squid Game show and other media, and for Amanda we are using stuff like the Saw movies and other media.
Background
The Salesman
“I've always wondered how you made it out of there alive. For one thing, you were even terrible at ddakji.”
Hundreds of cashed strapped players accepted a very strange invitation to compete in a children's game. Inside the games, is a price of 45.6 Billion Won with a deadly high stake. A story where people fail and take risks to join these games to earn that big amount. Whether they are in debt, wanting to save a loved one from sickness, or just earn this big amount for your own gain. Inviting these people, is none other than The Salesman, himself.
His past still remains unknown, but from what was told, he started out as a Pink Guard who works under the name of Hwang In Ho, cremating deceased players, believing they are trash in this world, until he was promoted as a soldier.
During one of the games, he was preparing to execute a player, only to realize it was his own father. Despite him asking for mercy, The Salesman shot him dead in order for the games to continue.
The year 2020 is where The Salesman starts to recruit players to join the 33rd Squid Game, which includes a man who is drowning in debt, Seong Gi Hun. He asked Gi Hun to play ddakji with him, and every flip Gi Hun achieves, he will win 100,000 won. It took Gi Hun so many tries, especially how each failed attempts is a slap in the face. After Gi Hun has earned his price, The Salesman offers him to join the 33rd Squid Game, reminding him that there aren't any slots left, and left him in the subway.
After Gi Hun has won the games, he hired loan sharks to search for The Salesman in exchange for 1 billion won. Two individuals found him with a large quantity of bread and 100 lottery tickets for him to test the poor whether they choose to take the bread or risk their desires to win the lottery.
Most of the poor people he approaches chose the lottery ticket, where none have won anything from it. So in exchange, he dumped all of the bread at the center of the park, stomping them and taught these people that their own greed for money has made them lose the sustenance that keeps them alive.
After that, two loan sharks followed him in order for them to gain the 1 billion won and attack him directly, but to no avail, The Salesman beats them up and tied them in a chair, forcing them to play a deadly game of Rock, Paper, Scissors Minus One with the twist of Russian Roulette, taking one life at the end.
He proceeds to visit Gi Hun at his apartment where he got curious on how he won the games. Especially how he believes that Gi Hun was terrible at ddakji.
The Salesman and Gi Hun played a game of Russian Roulette, however, he believes that Gi Hun is special for him, and to make the game interesting, he will not be spinning the chamber of his revolver, where both of them survived both shots.
When Gi Hun is about to shoot his fifth shot, giving him a 50% chance of surviving, The Salesman starts to taunt him, telling him to shoot him, noting to him that if he ever does that, he will be known as “trash” who got lucky to survive the games.
Gi Hun doesn't take the bait and survives the fifth shot, surprising The Salesman. This is where Gi Hun repeats his words, believing that if he ever does shoot him, he will be nothing more than their lapdog. Shaken by what he said, The Salesman shoots himself under the chin, dead eliminated.
People like The Salesman exist in life, whether they question why you still exist, and how they will taunt you to make wrong choices, but people will always have a choice to fight and stand up for what they believe in. Which is what Gi Hun did; he chose to fight for his own life, where The Salesman taunts him that he will be nothing more than trash. It shows that people don't even know who you are until you prove them wrong.
Amanda Young
“Sometimes, we get sucked into things that are… against our nature.”
What if you wake up in a room, alone, trapped in a seemingly impossible trap, and all of a sudden, a television turns on and you see a puppet who wants to play a game?
John Kramer, the man behind the games, kidnaps anyone who doesn't value their own lives, making it a test of survival where they would do anything in their power to keep on living or die trying to escape.
One of these people he kidnapped is a woman who was called a “lost soul”, where her life was all squandered by her own addiction to drugs. That girl, is Amanda Young.
While there is no further explanation why Amanda enters into the life of crime, a theory suggests that she was abused by her father who usually locks her up in a dark room for hours.
She attends a recovery clinic called Homeward Bound, where she has a doctor named Jill Tuck. Her issues were so bad it came to the point where Jill gave up on her.
One night, she and another drug addict named Cecil Adams planned to steal some medications after the clinic closes to relieve their withdrawals, where Cecil was hesitant at first, but followed through in the end.
This caused the accidental miscarriage of Jill Tuck’s unborn child.
One day in May of 2004, she woke up with a bear trap in her head. She saw a TV and saw Jigsaw. He told her that she only has a minute to get the key inside the stomach of her cellmate. She gets the key just in time before the bear trap even kills her.
After she reported to the police what happened, she went home where John Kramer was behind her, telling her that her life had just begun. That's where she starts training with Kramer for the next five months.
After some training, she begins kidnapping people where they would participate in Kramer's games, but despite her beliefs that she doesn't want anyone to survive the games. She made ways to rig the games, making it unwinnable. Believing that she doesn’t want anyone else to be John Kramer’s apprentice.
Before John discovered her transgressions, he believed that she was fully rehabilitated by surviving the reverse bear trap, and brought her into Jill’s practice as evidence that any person’s life could turn around.
Later in October 2005, she was asked to take part in the next games where she was surrounded with ex-convicts who were framed by the very person who also framed her from a crime she hasn't done. That man was Eric Matthews.
After Eric failed her test by involving the cops, she decides to leave him to die. But realized he escaped and killed him off.
John fears that Amanda is not fit to be the next Jigsaw, so he devises a plan to test her self control, in order to know if she's capable.
In the next game John is planning, she meets Mark Hoffman, where the two had developed a rivalry where both want to take over John’s work after his passing, with neither wanting to share that honor with another person.
Amanda soon realizes what horrible things she has done with her victims, which causes her to have a relapse where she starts to self harm herself. Kramer knew what was going on, so he gave her a final test.
After kidnapping Dr. Denlon and bringing her to Kramer, this is where John tested Amanda. His goal for Dr. Denlon was to keep her alive, but also tested Amanda if she can let Dr. Denlon’s test go uninterrupted.
While working together in John’s surgery, he was having a hallucination about his wife, he held Dr. Denlon's arm, thinking that it was his wife, and told her that he loves her. This causes Amanda to snap.
John knew that the test of her not being emotionally dependent on him would cause her to break. But Hoffman blackmails her by switching the letter in the envelope Kramer wrote for her, motivating her to kill Dr. Denlon.
After Dr. Denlon succeeds in keeping John Kramer alive, he lets her go and told Amanda to unlock her collar, but her emotional state spiralled downhill and defies him. She kills Dr. Denlon, and later on, her husband, Jeff, sees how she killed her and kills Amanda by shooting her.
In John and Amanda's last dying breaths, he told Amanda that this was a test. Telling her, “Your will to live and keep someone alive.” Which she thought was talking about Dr. Denlon. She has failed John Kramer and died because of her own actions.
Amanda can be a very big example on why our lives matter most, and how our own choices will affect every outcome in our decisions. It wouldn't matter if you want to seek professional help or not, the choice will always be yours to take.
Skill and Experience
The Salesman
Just looking at him, you might not think the Salesman is necessarily that skillful or orientated. But we can use his past as a Pink Guard to say he should've had similar capabilities, like being trained in firearms, knowledge of the layout of the facility, and general competence when it came to dealing with people in the games.
Even after this time the Recruiter has shown their abilities, like intentionally avoiding the police and keeping a low profile, and was able to outplay the people who were following them, even figuring out he was followed. He later physically took them out with little difficulty.
Amanda Young
Amanda is pretty skilled in designing, constructing, and elaborating traps made by John Kramer himself. Where it also came down to the point where she tends to rig the games for the people she kidnaps to make their escape sometimes unwinnable. Amanda is also intelligent and pretty skilled when it comes to stealth, and is pretty proficient in using different types of weapons, such as guns and knives.
There were moments that she paticipated in other games with ex-convicts where she once acted as a participant. Telling them that Jigsaw is testing them to see how they can use their skills to survive. She is pretty skilled in preparations and planning for her traps and games which includes acquiring necessary materials.
Arsenal
The Salesman
Revolver
You've seen this in the movies right? Russian Roulette? If you haven’t, it is usually played using a revolver, so naturally the Salesman has one, a Smith & Wesson Model 19. Long range, very light, and concealable, a very useful weapon at his disposal, only downside is that it only holds 6 rounds.
Pink Guard Outfit
The main thing we know of the Salesman’s past is that they worked as one or the many, many Pink Guards, starting as a circle then being promoted to triangle. With this we can say that they had one of these outfits, which are designed to cover the wearer's identity and make them one part of many. The masks are the most notable, showing the guards rank from the shape, and can be scanned to tell which individual that guard is(ex. Number 11, 29, etc). These masks can also be compressed into a smaller size for convenience.
Taser
A tool we used by a Pink Guard is this taser, which can of course shock people at close range stunning them, with prolonged exposure can knock the unconscious entirely.
MP5 Submachine Gun
The most common weapon used by Pink Guards are these, decently lightweight machine guns used to eliminate players who lost a game. While not extremely accurate, they do carry decently sized magazines.
Crowbar
Simple blunt object that isn't intended to be a weapon, but was used by a Pink Guard to finish off the ‘zombie’ player after they failed to be eliminated. Shows how dedicated these soldiers are to the game, doesn't it?
Knife
A small switchblade knife used on Kang No-eul in her quarters by another Guard. As a knife it's naturally a good close range weapon, and doesn't what knives are known for.
Briefcase
Every good salesman keeps their briefcase on them when covering business, the Recruiter being no exception. While unassuming at first, he can use it in combat, surprisingly well actually. It also can hold various items as a briefcase does, typically several stacks of 10,000 to 50,000 won, and his signature ddakji cards.
Ddakji
Speaking of which, here we have the now infamous Korean kids game ddakji. The Salesman has at least 2 of the game's respective cards in his briefcase but has way more at their disposal. These are normally used to play ddakji of course, but could theoretically be used as admittedly weak but unsuspected projectiles.
Amanda Young
Hidden blade
Consisting of the blade and the mechanical contraption, it is usually strapped at the right forearm, moving the hand in a certain direction, it can activate a small mechanism which extends the blade. It is also a hidden weapon for self defense.
Tranquilizer Syringe
A signature for those who dawn the pig mask, Amanda has access to a supply of syringes filled with what is presumably some type of tranquilizer, as it's used to put it's target to sleep, making them easy to transport into a trap, and has been how most people end up getting into them anyways. While typically used for ambushes, we can assume it would still work in combat just fine.
Pig Mask
To hide her identity Amanda uses a pig mask that she uses to hide her identity from her victims. Other Jigsaw recruits and John himself have also used it or other masks like it to great effect.
Its black hair also makes it decent at blending into shadows.
Reverse Bear Trap
By far the most iconic Saw trap, the Reverse Bear Trap is relatively simple but effective, John himself explains it pretty well; it's a device that is attached to the jaws of the target, after a minute, it will forcefully rip the bones apart in opposite directions violently. It's so strong that it appears to even do damage to the skull, of course killing the target.
It should be noted that it does take time and prep to set up and isn't just something that can be used mid-combat directly. But we've seen that it could be used if the target is restrained or unconscious, something Amanda could theoretically replicate.
Gun
Amanda has this Smith & Wesson 5946, which naturally is a small portable DAO hand gun. It takes 9mm rounds, and has good accuracy even at distances around 100 or so yards. It's known to be durable and reliable.
Nail Bomb
The nail bomb is used with ordinary glass jars with tons of nails inside the jar with the explosive charge that is attached to the jar’s lid. Every bomb is connected to a timer, while some are connected to the jar itself. A timer, often connected to the container or a remote trigger, initiates the explosion.
Feats
The Salesman
Overall
Only worker for the Squid Games who successfully raised in ranks that we know of.
Tricks players into joining the games
Made poor people choose between bread and a lottery ticket
Was able to be undetected for a long time
Killed his father whom he hated (good for him).
Has honestly a very chill job and routine.
Received the most edits out of any character from the show.
Smashed up some bread pretty well ngl.
Took down two grown men with just a briefcase.
Slapped Gi-Hun many times, as well as completely blocked his attempt to slap him.
Implied to have slapped every single player in the games.
Players in the games have taken apart their beds, beat people to death with their hands, snapped another one's neck, smashed a mirror, etc.
Was a Pink Guard for a time and thus would likely be of similar training and skill in the same situations.
Was able to force two grown men in playing Rock Paper Scissors Minus One with a Russian Roulette twist, killing one of them.
Played a game of Russian Roulette with Gi Hun.
Is pretty well with words of manipulation, where he tried to use it against Gi Hun during Russian Roulette.
Amanda Young
Overall
Kidnapped a professional police officer.
Kidnap a doctor.
Studied under John Kramer (a professional engineer).
Fought Eric Mathews (and lost).
Survive the gas house.
Slays the pig outfit.
Was able to survive a Saw trap before joining John Kramer.
Stabbed a man to death
Got into DBD over John and Mark (Salesman would never).
Never got caught by the police
Survived getting pushed into a pit of needles.
Manipulated the players of Saw 2 into thinking she was a player.
She's the third longest follower of John Kramer.
Put herself in the most danger, willing to take more risks.
Is willing to do unbeatable games (She did it twice, once with Troy and once with Kerry).
Was able to create her own traps.
Should downscale to people who can shatter glass and snap necks.
Weaknesses
The Salesman
From what we know about The Salesman, he is very committed to playing his own games. Theoretically, the way that you can beat him is that you must not be persuaded by his own manipulation, and eventually, he will be willing to lose at his own game, even if at his own demise.
Amanda Young
Amanda's biggest weakness will be her emotional instability. Which is shown that her temperamental behavior will also contribute to her vulnerability. Without John Kramer’s guidance, her lack of control will eventually lead her to her demise.
Before the verdict
Saw Games Usage
Okay one of the more common questions is if the Saw Games are canon, and the simple answer is… they are indeed canon to the Saw movies, they generally don't have anything that directly contradicts with the movies canon, even David being alive due to the several times characters have supposedly been dead just coming back. With that said, what do the games bring to the table? Well it gives new feats that are performed by David Tapp and his son, while it is debatable if Amanda does scale, we feel like we should mention these feats, cuz there's the argument of Amanda scaling to them.
David And Michael Tapp's Feats
David Tapp
Able to endure his hand getting stabbed by multiple needles while searching keys in toilets, broken glass shards on his feet, hot steam, fire, toxins, and even putting his hand in acid.
Survived a baseball bat strike at his backside.
Able to solve highly convoluted traps and puzzles on the first try.
Is able to react from shot gun doors.
Can survive through the whole saw trap gauntlet and still keep going.
Can destroy an entire wall with only 5 punches (note: the wall still had some noticeable damage to it before Tapp punched it).
Scales above characters who can kick down doors barricaded by wooden planks with only just a few kicks.
Able to knock out/kill enemies with only a few punches and hits from melee weapons, while taking a lot more hits from enemies in comparison.
Able to use anything as a weapon as well as an expert crafter.
Able to outsmart and defeat the pig (note, this version of the pig was able to survive multiple shotgun tripwire shots to the head and still chase around tapp who's is comparable to him with only down scaling to him a bit physically).
And was able to send a door flying with 3 hits while “jigsaw” was holding the door.
Scales to his son cause duh.
Micheal Tapp
Reacted to shot gun doors fire.
Expect news reporters.
Able to react from enemy attacks with their weaponry.
Able to solve highly convoluted puzzles and traps on the first try.
Expert lockpicker.
Able to break chains with a couple of axe swings.
Can take down enemies with only a few hits.
Able reacts and dodge gunfire from a trained cop.
Most likely can perform the same feats Tapp performed in the first game.
May or may not be the next Jigsaw apprentice depending on not only the ending but how you interpret one of the endings.
The Verdict
Bored Seba
Hey Bored Seba here, and it's my time to say who I think wins, between the Salesman and Amanda Young, this matchup is really close and there's a ton to talk about with this matchup so let's get started!
First let's talk about Experience, and that one I have to give it to Salesman, he's been working for the Squid game for a longer time and not only that he's actually has more combat experience than Amanda, and unlike Amanda, the Salesman here has won fights before, he even had two fight several people at the same time and won, while Amanda fought one and still lost, so yeah a point for the Salesman.
Second let's talk about intelligence, and this one will be interesting to cover, if we are talking about overall intelligence I'll give it to Amanda, she's trained with John Kramer and even made her own traps, The Salesman has more of combat intelligence as he has more experience fighting people, so yeah overall intelligence goes to Amanda, combat intelligence goes to Salesman.
Now let's talk about stats, and yeah while they don't have many feats, we do know that Salesman is physically stronger than Amanda which does give him the edge….unless you use the Saw Games which are pretty important into this debate, cuz yeah while it's debatable if Amanda does scale, she has a bunch of arguments for her at the very least downscale which does give her a physical each over the Salesman, so this really about do you buy the Saw Games for Amanda, for me personally? I think she could at least downscale to the protagonist of the Saw games, so I have Amanda taking stats.
Another thing that I do wanna cover is that while Amanda isn't good at fighting like the Salesman, she has something that could change her situation, her arsenal and skill, while Salesman is more experience, Amanda has more skill in stuff like stealth, and while yes Salesman has dealt with people who try to be stealthy, they weren't as skilled as Amanda in it, not to mention that Amanda has several weapons that could give her the win, like the tranquilizer, which if she connects with the tranquilizer she has a big solid wincon but let's not doubt the Salesman yet, while yes he isn't as skilled in stuff like stealth, he should have the arsenal to take down Amanda, stuff like his taser, gun, and even his knife which should counter Amanda blade, and also has a lot of ways to win the fight, giving him a good wincon as well, so ngl I feel like the skill and arsenal part is even imo, cuz they have so many ways to win the fight, and with their different skills, like Salesman fighting skills and good manipulation and arsenal and Amanda stealth, tranquilizer etc, so yeah I feel like in this part it's a tie.
Now, this part that I'm gonna mention I think it's the important part of the debate, their views on the death games, why do I consider this the most important part of the debate, because it carries the biggest wincon for one of the characters and to me that character is Amanda but let me explain, Salesman likes to play fair, to the point that the game he wants to play fair ends in his demise but Amanda doesn't have that problem, she's willing to break the rules, which kinda gives her an edge here, Salesman trying to play fair could just cause his own demise, Amanda doesn't need to play by the Salesman rules, she could just break the rule and end the fight, while yes Amanda has an exploitable weakness that is her emotions, something that Salesman can take advantage off, I don't think it's gonna be that big of a wincon if Salesman keeps trying to play fair which most likely than not would allow Amanda to hit the killing blow to win the fight.
Overall I just think Amanda wins, but it's close. The Salesman put up a great fight but my winner is Amanda.
Creepy
Ultimate sigma male rizzler vs Ultimate edgy meatrider, peak match up tbh tbh.
Anyways yeah hello yes my name is Creepy, finally time to answer the question of the day: who winning this? Well naturally you wanna hear my take, so let's analyze this real quick and I'll explain my conclusion.
First of all let's get this out of the way, both characters have guns, so realistically both can just one shot the other, but there is a catch to this, since neither character has shown to have any real standout feats of speeds that an athletic person can't do, and both aren't exactly skilled in marksmanship, the scenario would likely play out as either a perfectly even 50/50, or a tie with both being shot. If neither get shot and a shoot out happens, then both would either again 50/50, tie, or then just run out of ammunition (while side arm to side arm the Salesman has a smaller load size, this gets canceled out with his primary which comparably has a larger clip then Amanda's gun, meaning if one needs to reload; a time the other can take advantage of, it again is a 50/50 scenario). This practically just means both of their guns are irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, as neither is directly faster or more skilled than the other to where a quick draw wouldn't just be pure chance, or would have both out of ammo leading into the remainder of the debate anyhow. TL;DR, the guns either leave us at a 50/50 win rate or are just not a factor.
With that in mind, this would likely end up not coming down to either characters gun, so then we have the physical stats cover, which are actually pretty clear cut, both series have characters perform similar feats (breaking necks and shattering mirrors), but the Salesman should be at least comparable to these feats if not upscale, while Amanda is shown to be weaker than characters who have achieved said instances, making the Recruiter stronger by some unqualifiable margin, not exactly a big gap but noticeable. This gets amplified by the fact that he has shown better displays of combat capabilities, winning a 2v1 while Amanda has only lost in direct fights without much skill to show for it. Now I know some people might bring up the games and the buffs they give her, but I won't talk much about it yet, you'll see why later. Meaning overall the Salesman takes the edge in stats, not by a ridiculous degree though.
Moving right along we have the most important category in my opinion, their arsenals. Starting with the Recruiter he has a few things to use, his briefcase we've seen him use quite effectively, his crowbar has great reach and utility, and his taser is a very unexpected option that he can bust out, however his only directly fatal weapon is the knife. This becomes an issue when we compare these to Amanda's blade, which is longer than the knife and taser, and is more fatal than the briefcase and crowbar. Her blade is also designed to be concealed, so it has an unpredictable nature to it as well. So while Salesman has the comparatively larger arsenal in numbers, most of it isn't as effective as Amanda's blade (and some of it doesn't really help like what do you expect bro to do with his Pink jumpsuit and folded pieces of paper). Amanda doesn't only have her blade either, she also has her tranquilizer, which I find to be the big thing in the fight, as all she needs to do is hit the Salesman with it once and he'll be knocked out for a good while, which makes her free to put him inside of a trap such as the RBT (or just like slit his throat or shoot him in the head but that's more out of character and WAY less cool so), and the RBTs AP, if you couldn't have guessed, is way above anything you can have the Salesman scale to, and since he has never seen anything like it before it's unlikely to say he could escape, at least it'd be against his favor (and on top of that Amanda could rig the trap to go off as well considering she has done similar before). This for all intents and purposes means that Amanda's tranquilizer is an instant win option that she just needs to get close in to pull off, and while the Salesman's crowbar has more range than the needle, that isn't exactly as dangerous in comparison. Plus Amanda also has her nail bombs, which I could see definitely getting the Recruiter off guard, due to again, never seeing any trap like these before, though granted these are a bit situational since she can't just throw one like a grenade and needs to set them up, and doing that mid fight would be a challenge to say the least.
Another big thing here to me is Amanda's pain tolerance, she has shown multiple times that she isn't easily slowed down by injuries, meaning that any blows the Salesman lands, she is gonna get back up much easier than vice versa. Especially when a good number of Recruiters weapons are blunt objects, and the taser she might easily overcome due to this as well, the only thing being his knife which due to its size would need to hit some vital era and make a large gash, otherwise if the cuts too small Amanda would just power through it. Hell this could affect the gun scenario earlier, since if a stray shot hits Amanda's arm or leg or other such non fatal era, she's more than likely gonna get over it more than if the same were to happen to the Salesman.
“But if the Recruiter is stronger, couldn't he just overpower and avoid Amanda's attempts to use the tranquilizer?” I mean, yeah that is a possibility, but I do believe the more common outcome is Amanda getting it off catching the Salesman by surprise. Remember Amanda is very good at stealth and deception, it's very well possible for her to get the jump on him to land the syringe, and while yes the Recruiter as realizing when other people were following them and is very aware of his surroundings, the fact that he has never encountered someone with the type of weapon Amanda as means that even if he is aware of her jumping him, he wouldn't anticipate her to inject him with a needle. So to me at least I just see Amanda landing it more times then not.
And then this leads us to our final topic of discussion, the X factor if you will, both characters' mind sets. Which both have advantages and disadvantages with some overlap and equalization. Firstly it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that Amanda is the on paper smarter of the two, I feel I don't need to explain that, but the Salesman does have the numerical experience edge as he's worked in the Squid Games for longer than Amanda has been working under John's wing, and as stated before he has shown a better combat skill record than her on top of this. But there's two major factors of both that need to be addressed: the Recruiters willingness to follow through the rules of the game, and Amanda's unstable mental state. Both of these I can either character taking advantage of. On the one hand, I can see Amanda challenging the Salesman into a game under his own will and agreement that could lead to his demise, with Amanda having the manipulation ability to possibly pull this off, and is more than willing to break these rules to win while the Salesman isn't. On the other hand I can see the Salesman using his knowledge of his targets prior to his interaction with them, and making Amanda act more on emotion and leading her to make a mistake that he can use, helps that he likely is aware of some manipulation tactics of his own. So it is hard to say who takes it here, with both having a greater edge in certain scenarios over others, and having their skill tree more in a direction the other doesn't cover as well. So really it's just a puzzle, but personally at least, I can see Amanda's half being the more likely outcome of the two, as the Recruiter hasn't directly fought someone who has such manipulation skills, just is aware of, meanwhile I can see Salesman's attempts to get into Amanda's head possibly backfiring making her more willing just outright kill him. All in all I have to give this the slightest of pushes in Amanda's favor.
But before I end my segment I need to get to that game scaling I talked about earlier, since it is a big factor, if Amanda gets these feats even just downscaling them, she'd be way stronger than Salesman which takes away his main advantage normally, however as you could guess from above, I already have Amanda winning without it, so while yes it does make her win more clear, I do believe that whether you buy the scaling or not, she does take this, making its usage not a big factor to me. I just didn't mention it earlier because the debate's far more interesting without it lol.
Anyways yeah, after looking everything over, in my totally correct humble opinion, due to her weapons, manipulation, and pain tolerance, while he put up a very close fight, I see it as being Squid Game Over for The Salesman, and the winner of this match being Amanda Young.
(My guess is you skipped to the vote though, I know who you are HA)
Crimson
Overall I think Amanda takes this without too much difficulty, she's smarter more Stealthier has a better knife tranquilizer is a major wincon a better manipulator way better pain tolerance and stronger vis game scaling, only thing I think The Salesman has is being better at combat and potentially taking advantage over Amanda's fractured mental state which I don't think matters to much in a fight, Amanda has also taken a pretty bad bashing before and could potentially inject salesman with the tranquilizer as they're fighting.
TJ
Hey guys! It's your boi, TJ! And this is my very first time working in a blog, so I’m pretty hyped for this!
So let us all start off with Amanda Young. She is pretty smart with her traps. Her arsenal is definitely a no brainer, since it can be used against other people she kidnaps. I also wouldn't deny that her stealth can also be her main advantage whenever she tracks down her potential victims. Though they did fight back at some point, Amanda has the tranquilizer syringe that knocks down people unconscious. Her pain endurance is no doubt crazy, since she is used to cutting herself with blades and has fallen into a pit of needles.
Now we go with The Salesman or The Recruiter. Sure, he may have a limited arsenal with only a briefcase with ddakji, but the main thing about The Recruiter is that he is pretty much aware of his surroundings, like that one time when Gi Hun was about to chase him, he was able to escape on time and notice Jeong Rae and Woo Seok who is following him and tracking him down. And one of the main things about The Salesman is that he is a pretty skilled fighter, noting that he is able to beat them up and knock them down pretty easily. But the main factor of The Recruiter is that he is very composed and pretty good at manipulation.
Comparing Amanda and Salesman, it is really close. Amanda has the advantage of her arsenal, and her stealth will always come in handy when it comes to attacking her opponents. Plus the tranquilizer syringe would guarantee a lockdown in her favor. But I do believe that The Recruiter would notice those stealths, since his reaction speed is pretty impressive, like when Gi Hun was about to slap him. Also Amanda’s biggest weakness is her emotional instability. Noting this when Doctor Denlon is trying to keep John Kramer alive, which would cause her to snap.
To make things more interesting, let's say these two have small knowledge about each other. Noting how The Salesman tried manipulating Gi Hun in pulling the trigger, he would literally cause Amanda to snap in an instant, which would make him gain the upper hand even more.
This was really close to say the least, but I am leaning towards The Salesman winning more often than not. Yes, Amanda's stealth would be a good way for her to sneak past by The Salesman to gain the upper hand, but it is seen that The Salesman has dealt with people who has been following him, even though he was seen by two shark loaners, it would be easy for him to notice them, just like how he would notice Amanda even at the smallest instincts. But Amanda's ultimate downfall is her emotional instability, which I believe The Salesman would take advantage of. Also taking notes that Amanda has at least a backstory, which I believe The Salesman would study, knowing how he has learned every detail about every player he invites, he can use that advantage to easily break Amanda.
Amanda is certainly a scary foe, especially with her stealth and arsenal, but The Salesman’s better hand to hand combat abilities, level headedness and manipulation would break Amanda into her demise.
The winner is The Salesman.
Ag The Og
The OG is in the house! This is my first time working on a blog so I hope not to waste a good first impression. I find this debate less of a stomp but something pretty clear cut
For starters Amanda with her game scaling, considering the fact she should be comparable to your average in-game survivor and some sort of cross scaling, she should be able to down scale to Tapp who already has very impressive high street to wall level feats and superhuman speeds. Giving my vote to Amanda in the stats department, though I would say without game stuff sales man should be physically superior but not by much. But what is stats when it comes to equipment? Well I would also give that edge to Amanda, considering the fact both do have guns that's really the only thing the Salesman has when he typically carries on him, that and a briefcase with cards and Ddajki while Amanda carries more fight orientated weapons like an assassins creed like blade and Tranquilizer Syringes
But the main factor of the debate is who is better to get the drop on the other and knock them out, which ya guess it I lean towards Amanda. Ignoring the game scaling and just going with only the movies, most of Amanda's kit is used for stealth, especially with her using the environment and shadows to her advantage. Salesman doesn't really have much experience with trying to capture people for a living and only coming to people inviting them to the game, you also can't make the argument that he has countered people trying to get the drop on him cause for starters Kim Jeong-rae and Choi Woo-seok targeted him in clear daylight, 2nd they got his attention by yelling at him, and 3rd they're kinda dumb. It would be tricky trying to find the Salesman but not impossible, especially the resources Amanda has to track him. It's more likely she would target him at night, attack from the shadows without him knowing and knock him out with the syringes, later putting him in a death game she sets up where he can't win. And you know what's funny? Even if let's say hypothetically the Salesman does predict her attack and knocks her out, bringing her to his home field advantage, there's still a chance for her to survive by playing Russian Roulette with him.
Looking at it, the victor makes sense. One is an apprentice who's willing to break the rules of any game she's affiliated with in order to ensure she wins, while the other apprentice followers the games fair and square even at his own demise
The winner is Amanda Young
DJ
At the end of the day this is a fight to the death, and between the two it’s shown that Salesman excels in the category of both weapons and combat. He’s more determined to win and very good at knowing his surroundings. He doesn’t have the intelligence Amanda does but at the end she is still vulnerable and able to be tricked and/or manipulated in time for the Salesman to finish her off.
